Physicochemical analyses of some systems important in aluminum production. VII. Liquidus of the cryolite angle in the cut of the system Na3AlF6AlF3-Al2O3-CaF2-NaCl-MgF2 with the constant mount of 3 percent CaF2

Abstract: cf. CA 56, 60a. By thermal analysis and visual methods, the cryolite angle in the cut of the system Na3AlF6AlF3-Al2O3-CaF2-NaCl-MgF2  was studied. The effect of the addn. of NaCl in combination with the addn. of MgF2 and AlF3 on the temp. decrease of the primary crystn. of cryolite fusions and on the soly. of Al2O3 in the fusion was detd. The effect of the addn. of NaCl on the electrolyte fusion is approx. the same as that of MgF2 (5°/1% of the addn.). Less effective is the addn. of AlF3 (2-3°/1% AlF3). The effect of these addns. on the decrease of the iso-thermal soly. of Al2O3 increases in the order NaCl < AlF3 < MgF2 (0.15-0.20% Al2O3/1% NaCl, 0.2 0.3% Al2O3/1% AlF3, 0.25-0.50% Al2O3/1% MgF2).
